Angry mum living 'like POWs in a Nazi camp' as planes continue using Dublin Airport’s new runway

Sun Aug 25 2024

On August 24 of last year, a €320 million runway was opened, significantly impacting Serena Isdale and her family's life. Serena described the situation as unbearable, likening it to the suffering endured in Nazi concentration camps. The noise from low-flying aircraft has made their home, located on her husband's family farm near Newton Cross, unlivable.

The family is now considering selling the property, a heartbreaking decision given that the farm has been in her husband Jim’s family for generations. However, they feel trapped, as they doubt anyone would want to buy a home so close to a noisy flight path.

Originally from Rathfarnham in South Dublin, Serena settled on the farm with her husband, only to discover in August 2022 that their house lies directly under the main flight path of the new runway. The constant disruption has turned their home into what she calls a "home from hell," depriving them of sleep and forcing them to consider leaving. Serena expressed how the noise has reached a point where they can no longer live a normal life. She humorously compared the situation to Alex Ferguson's famous "noisy neighbors" remark about Manchester City, saying that Ferguson would understand the true meaning of noisy neighbors if he lived in their area.

The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has been contacted for comment on the situation.
