Environmental campaigners have sued the European Union over its decision to include fossil fuel-powered planes and ships in its green investment taxonomy.

The coalition of NGOs argues that the EU's criteria for labeling aviation and shipping activities as sustainable are flawed, allowing for "loose" rules that classify polluting technologies as green if they meet weak efficiency standards.

This, they claim, sends the wrong message to investors and could lock in carbon-intensive assets for decades.

The lawsuit follows previous legal challenges against the EU's green taxonomy, accusing it of greenwashing polluting industries.

The European Commission has yet to respond.
