Noise levels from National Airport have not significantly increased in recent years, but they have become more noticeable for Alexandrians due to changes in flight paths.

At a community meeting, Vianair Inc.'s Jim Allerdice explained that while noise monitoring stations have shown consistent noise levels over the past decade, complaints have risen since 2015, peaking in 2019.

This trend is likely due to the DC Metroplex project, which created two flight paths closer to shorelines instead of a single path down the center of the river.

The South of the Airport Noise Mitigation Project aims to convince the FAA to return to an over-the-river route to reduce noise.

Key goals include maximizing flight paths over the river, increasing altitudes, improving track variability, and minimizing overhead flights in sensitive areas.
