Local community group contests altered flight path from airport

Wed Jul 31 2024

Plane Sense Wellington Inc, a community group, has instructed legal firm Dalzell Wollerman to file a High Court judicial review challenging the validity of the DMAPS flight path change at Wellington Airport.

The group contends that the change, implemented on December 1, 2022, without community consultation, has increased aircraft movements and directed jet aircraft over residential areas sooner than before.

Despite efforts to collaborate with Airways and Wellington Airport since March 2023, Plane Sense asserts that both entities have not committed to reverting to the previous flight path, citing inadequate noise modeling and significant community health impacts, including exacerbated conditions like PTSD and dementia.

The community group, supported by overwhelming resident approval, is pursuing legal action to hold responsible parties accountable for what they perceive as a flawed and harmful decision-making process.
