London City Airport attempt to lift Saturday flight restrictions has been rejected

Tue Aug 20 2024

London City Airport (LCA) lost its bid to extend Saturday flight hours, with the government upholding a ban on flights after 12:30 pm on Saturdays.

However, the airport was granted permission to increase its annual passenger cap from 6.5 million to 9 million by 2031, while the number of flights remains capped at 111,000 per year.

The decision was celebrated by local residents and campaigners, though environmental groups criticized the increase in passengers.

The airport expressed disappointment over the ruling, noting that the curfew limits the introduction of quieter, next-generation aircraft. Concerns were also raised about the impact of early-morning flights on residents' health and quality of life.
